DSTV Installation for Wadeville Business Premises

Wadeville is an industrial and railway area, so most of the DStv work here is on commercial premises rather than houses: a screen in reception, a screen in the canteen, something in the boardroom, and often a small TV in a security office that runs around the clock. The requirements are different from a home installation in almost every respect — the distances are longer, the buildings are unforgiving to cable, and nobody on site has time to nurse a fault.

Planning a multi-screen system for a workplace

One dish can feed several decoders, and how that is done depends on the count. A handful of points can run from a multi-output LNB. More than that, and a multiswitch is the right answer: it lets a number of decoders share a single dish while each still receives a full signal, and it leaves room to add points later without re-doing the head end.

We start by walking the site and listing what each screen is for, because that decides the design. A canteen screen that must show sport at lunchtime and a reception screen showing a news channel have different requirements from four screens in a boardroom showing the same thing. Getting that list right is what keeps the system from being extended badly a year later.

Cable in an industrial building

Runs here are longer than in a house and the environment is harsher: steel roofs that get very hot, yards that vehicles cross, walls that other trades will drill into. We route along structure where we can, use conduit or trunking on exposed sections, and label both ends of every run. Labelling sounds trivial until somebody needs to trace a fault at seven in the morning.

Long runs lose signal, so distance is designed for rather than discovered. We work out the expected loss for the route and specify the equipment accordingly. Where a run has to cross open ground between buildings it goes into conduit, fixed down, well clear of anything that gets driven over.

Accounts, access and keeping it working

Showing DStv to staff, customers or visitors is commercial use, and MultiChoice treats it differently from a residential subscription. The account side is arranged directly with them; we handle the physical installation and can tell you what to ask. We do not sell subscriptions and we are not the people to phone about billing.

On the practical side, tell us about shift patterns, induction requirements, and any area where drilling has to be scheduled. Noisy work can usually be grouped into one window. Once the system is in, a scheduled check — alignment, connectors, LNB, every point tested — timed for a quiet week is far cheaper than a screen going down in front of visitors.

What a visit to Wadeville covers

Site walked and every screen's purpose listed before design
Multi-output LNB or multiswitch sized to the point count
Long runs designed for signal loss, in conduit, labelled both ends
Work scheduled around shifts and site access rules
