DSTV Installation in Castleview
Castleview sits a couple of kilometres east of Rand Airport, close enough that the airfield is how most people place it on a map — and close enough that we are regularly asked whether being near an airfield complicates a satellite installation. It does not. A DStv dish looks at a satellite sitting well above the horizon, so what matters is whether anything solid stands in that line from your wall: a neighbouring roof, a big tree, a parapet. Open sky over the airfield is neither a help nor a hindrance.
What actually blocks a satellite signal
Obstructions that matter are the ones close to the dish and in its line: the roof next door, a tall boundary wall, a tree that has grown since the dish went up. These block the signal completely rather than weakening it, which is why a dish can read a perfect signal from one end of a wall and nothing at all from the other end of the same wall.
We establish that with a meter before drilling, from more than one candidate position. Aircraft, aerials and passing weather are not what we are testing for — we are testing whether a fixed object is in the way, because that is the only thing that will still be in the way next year.
Mounting that stays where you put it
A dish is only as good as its fixing. We mount into solid brickwork with fixings matched to the substrate, brace anything that needs bracing, and avoid lightweight brackets on exposed elevations. Ahead of a Highveld storm the wind arrives before the rain does, and a mount that flexes gives up its alignment a millimetre at a time.
Where a roof mount is genuinely the best option we use a proper roof bracket and seal the penetrations. We would rather run more cable from a secure wall position than put a dish somewhere that will need re-pointing every season.
Cabling, decoders and second rooms
Cable is RG6, clipped down along its length, taken through conduit where it is exposed, and sealed at the wall entry. Outdoor connections are weatherproofed. Inside, we connect the decoder, run the channel scan and check signal quality at every TV point rather than declaring it done as soon as a picture appears.
If a second room is on the list, an Extra View setup links a second decoder to the same account with its own dedicated cable from the LNB. Tell us at the quote and both runs go in on the same visit.
