DSTV Installation & Repairs in Estera

Most call-outs are not for a system that has died. They are for one that has been quietly getting worse: a picture that breaks into blocks during the evening news, a channel that drops out when it rains, an error message that appears and clears on its own. That pattern means the signal margin has shrunk, and the useful question is which part of the chain used it up. Guessing costs more than measuring.

How a fault is actually traced

We start at the dish with a signal meter, which reads both strength and quality far more precisely than the bar on the decoder's own screen. If the reading is good at the LNB but poor at the TV, the fault is somewhere in between — the cable, a joint, a splitter, a connector full of water. If it is poor at the LNB, then the aim, the LNB itself or something blocking the view is to blame.

That order matters because it stops parts being replaced on spec. An LNB fitted to fix a cable fault leaves you with a new LNB and the same fault. Working the chain in sequence usually finds the cause in one visit, and we show you the readings rather than asking you to take our word for it.

The faults that come back most often

Water in an outdoor F-connector is near the top of the list, and it is the one most often missed because everything looks fine from the ground. Sun-perished cable sheathing is another: the copper is fine but the shielding has gone, so the picture degrades whenever anything else nearby is switched on. Ageing LNBs produce the classic intermittent fault that is worse when it is hot.

Alignment drift is the quietest of the lot. A dish nudged by a ladder, a builder or a strong wind may still work perfectly on a clear day and fail the moment there is cloud. Re-pointing with a meter and tightening the mount restores the margin, and it is a short job when it is the only thing wrong.

New installations and upgrades

Where the existing setup is past sensible repair, we quote a replacement properly: dish, bracket, LNB, new RG6 cable and connectors, with the decoder connected, scanned and tested. You get the price for the work and the price for the parts separately, before anything happens.

It is also the natural moment to add what you have been meaning to add — a second TV point with Extra View, or a newer decoder. Doing it while the cable is already being run is considerably cheaper than a second visit, so we ask the question at the quote rather than after.
