DSTV Installation in Tedstoneville
Installing a dish on a freestanding house and installing one in a complex are two different jobs, and the difference is not technical. In a complex the wall you want to drill into may be common property, the roof may not be yours to cross, and the trustees may have a rule about where dishes go. We would rather sort that out before the van arrives than get halfway through and be asked to stop.
What to check with the body corporate first
If your unit is in a complex, ask the managing agent or the trustees three things before we book: whether dishes are allowed on exterior walls, whether a position or a colour is specified, and whether there is a communal dish you are expected to connect to instead. Some schemes have rules, some have none, and there is no way to guess which from outside.
Where a scheme already has a communal system, the work on your side is usually a cable from an existing distribution point to your TV rather than a new dish at all. That is a smaller job, and we will tell you so rather than quoting for a dish you do not need.
Shared walls and where the drill goes
On a semi-detached or terraced unit, we avoid drilling through a party wall entirely and route the entry through your own external wall into your own space. That matters for noise and for damp, and it avoids an argument with a neighbour about a hole that appeared on their side.
Placement in a complex also means being discreet. A dish tucked onto a side elevation, low enough to be out of the sightline from the common areas, with the cable run behind a downpipe, usually satisfies everyone and performs exactly as well as one bolted to the front.
Freestanding houses in the same streets
Not every property here is in a scheme, and on a standard stand the job is the ordinary one: check the line of sight, mount into solid brickwork, run RG6 cable, seal the entry, set up and scan the decoder, and test signal quality at each TV point before packing up.
If there is an old dish already on the wall from a previous owner, we check whether it is worth keeping. A sound dish with a tired LNB is worth reusing. A rusted mount or a dish that has been knocked out of true is usually cheaper to replace than to chase.
