Once we know where we are going, the installation itself follows the same order every time. We look at what the dish will have in front of it, take meter readings from more than one candidate position, and only then decide where the bracket goes. Roofs, boundary walls and mature trees are the usual obstructions, and a position that reads well with a clear margin is worth a longer cable run.

Mounting goes into solid brickwork wherever possible, with fixings suited to what we are drilling into. The Highveld gets serious wind ahead of a summer storm, and a dish that shifts even slightly loses signal — a properly braced mount is cheaper than a call-out every season.

Plenty of the work here is on systems somebody else put in: a dish left by a previous owner, a cable spliced twice over the years, a connector that was never sealed. We test rather than assume. A meter reading at the LNB tells us whether the problem is the aim or the hardware; a reading at the decoder end tells us whether the cable in between is the culprit.

What comes out of that is a short list of what actually needs doing, priced item by item, rather than a recommendation to rip everything out. Sometimes it is a new LNB and two connectors. Sometimes the alignment has simply drifted. Either way you see the readings, not just the invoice.

Decoder setup is part of the job rather than something we leave you to work out: connections, channel scan, signal quality checked at each TV, and a quick run through the basics so a blank screen after a power cut does not become a call-out.
