DSTV Installation in Primrose

If you rent, the dish is not entirely your decision — and that trips up more installations than any technical problem does. A dish means a bracket bolted to a wall and a hole drilled through it, which is an alteration to somebody else's property. Getting a yes in writing from the landlord or the managing agent before the appointment takes one email and saves everybody a wasted visit.

What to ask before the installer arrives

Three questions cover almost every case. Is a dish allowed at all, or is there already a communal system you are meant to connect to? If it is allowed, is there a position the owner prefers — a side wall rather than the street frontage, for instance? And what is expected when you move out: is the dish left in place, or removed and the wall made good?

Get the answer as an email or a message rather than a conversation. It costs nothing and it means nobody is relying on a memory of what was agreed. We are happy to explain to an owner or an agent exactly what is being fixed to the wall and how it is sealed, if that helps get the answer.

Installing in a flat or a shared building

In a block, the wall outside your unit is usually common property and the roof almost always is. Where a communal dish or a distribution point already exists, the job on your side is a cable from that point into your flat — a smaller, tidier and usually cheaper piece of work than a dish of your own, and it avoids adding another bracket to the building.

Where a dish is permitted, discretion helps. A balcony or a side elevation, out of the sightline from the street and the common areas, with the cable run tight against an existing line, keeps everyone comfortable and performs exactly as well as a prominent position would.

Houses, repairs and upgrades

On a freestanding house the work is the standard one, and a good proportion of it is repair rather than installation: re-pointing a dish that has drifted, replacing an LNB that has started dropping out in the heat, cutting out a corroded connector, or renewing cable whose sheathing has perished in the sun.

Upgrades fit naturally alongside. If you are adding a newer decoder or a second TV point, doing it in the same visit as a repair saves a second call-out fee. We quote parts separately from labour so you can see exactly what you are paying for and decide what is worth doing now.

What a visit to Primrose covers

Landlord or agent permission confirmed in writing before booking
Communal distribution used where one exists, rather than a new dish
Discreet placement and tight cable routing in shared buildings
