DSTV Installation in Dawnview
Dawnview is the furthest of the areas we cover from the Germiston centre, which changes one thing about how we work there: it is worth getting everything onto a single visit. If the dish needs moving, a second room needs a point and the decoder is due for replacement, doing all three together is one call-out instead of three. So we ask more questions at the quoting stage than you might expect.
Getting everything onto one visit
Before we come out, tell us what you have and what you want. A photo of the existing dish, a photo of the back of the decoder and a rough idea of where the second TV would go are usually enough for a realistic quote and for us to arrive with the right parts on the van. Send them on WhatsApp — it is faster than describing an LNB over the phone.
That preparation is what turns a job into one appointment. The alternative is a technician arriving, finding the LNB has one output where two were needed, and booking a return visit for a part that could have been on board the first time.
New installations and second rooms
A new installation runs the same way here as anywhere: check what the dish can see, meter more than one candidate position, mount into solid brickwork, run RG6 cable clipped down and sealed at the wall entry, then connect the decoder, scan the channels and confirm signal quality at every TV point.
Extra View adds a second decoder to your existing subscription so two rooms can watch different channels. Each decoder needs its own cable back from the LNB — sharing one through a splitter is the single most common cause of a system that works for a month and then starts breaking up on both sets.
Faults, storms and what to expect
Brief dropouts during a heavy Highveld downpour are normal and clear when the rain does; a fault that persists once the sky is clear is a real one and worth a visit. If a decoder is dead after a storm, unplug it and call — lightning can reach equipment through the power supply or the dish cable, and that is a different job from a signal fault.
For everything else we test in order: the dish and LNB first, then the cable and connectors, then the decoder. You get the readings and a quote for what needs doing, and nothing is replaced before you have agreed to it.
