DSTV Installation in Germiston South
Germiston South sits right on the doorstep of the town centre, and that closeness shapes the work. Stands are worked hard: a boundary wall on two sides, a carport or a lean-to taking up part of the yard, and a neighbour's roof a few metres away. None of that stops a dish getting a clean signal — it just means the mounting position is a decision rather than a default. We look at the whole property before anything is drilled.
Choosing a mounting position on a tight stand
The front of the house is rarely the right place for a dish. What matters is an uninterrupted view in the direction the dish has to face, and on a compact stand that is more often a side wall, a gable end or the back of the house than the street elevation. We take a reading from two or three candidate positions with a signal meter and pick the one with the best margin, not the one that is easiest to reach with a ladder.
Where a neighbouring roof or a boundary wall clips the view, a slightly raised bracket usually solves it without resorting to a mast. A taller mount catches more wind, so if we do go up we fix into solid brickwork and brace it properly rather than trusting a short bracket to hold a dish through a Highveld storm.
Getting the cable inside without making a mess
The cable run is the part of the job people notice for years afterwards. We use RG6 coaxial cable, take the shortest sensible route, and fix it along its length so there are no loops sagging off the wall. Where it has to cross a face wall we follow an existing line — a gutter, a downpipe, the top of a wall — so the run reads as part of the building rather than an afterthought.
Coming through the wall, the entry point is drilled with a slight fall to the outside and sealed, so driven rain cannot follow the cable in. Outdoor connectors get weatherproofed properly. On older houses we check what is already there before adding to it, because a new cable joined onto a perished old one inherits its faults.
Homes that double as a workspace
A fair number of properties this close to the centre have an office, a workshop or a letting room somewhere on the stand. If you want a screen out there as well as in the lounge, say so at the quoting stage — running a second cable while the first one is being installed costs a fraction of coming back to do it later.
Whether that second point should be an Extra View decoder on your existing account or a separate subscription depends on how the space is used, and showing DStv to customers is treated differently from watching it yourself. We explain the practical difference and you sort the account side out with MultiChoice directly.
